The Kandhamal district to which our Vidyalaya lies was
separated from the district of Boudh-Kandhamal with the reorganization of
districts in Orissa on 1st January 1994. Kandhamal (Kandh is a
hill tribe: Mala in Oriya means hilly terrain) is a hilly district
inhabited originally by the Kandhas. Phulbani still acts as district
headquarters of the district. Kandhamal district of Orissa is the most
backward district of Orissa with a geographical area of 8021 sq. kms., The
district is situated within longitude of 80 30’ to 84 35’ East
and latitude of 19 34’ to 20 34’ North. The district is located
in the central Orissa bound by Boudh district in North, Rayagada in South,
Ganjam and Nayagarh districts in East and Kalahandi district in West.

The Kandhamal district belongs to 15 (SC) Phulbani
Parliamentary Constituency where entire Kandhamal, Boudh and
Subarnapur districts and partly Ganjam and Bolangir comes under
constitution. The district is constituted with three Assembly Segements
(constituencies) namely Phulbani, Balliguda and G.Udayagiri. Besides, Zilla
Parisad functions in the district with elected representatives headed by
President, a nominated representative from elected ZP members. The Hon'ble
